The Cubalaya is a striking and elegant chicken breed, recognized as the only breed officially native to Cuba. Developed in the 19th century from a mix of European gamefowl and Asian breeds like the Malay and Sumatra, it was bred as a "triple-purpose" bird for meat, eggs, and exhibition (and historically, sport). 
Remarkably friendly and tame with humans, often eating out of their keepers' hands.
Conservation Status
The breed is currently listed as Critical or Threatened by The Livestock Conservancy, making them a rare and valuable choice for conservation-minded hobbyists.
